Harkins Builders wins $11.7M Army deal at Fort Detrick
(2/9/2010) Harkins Builders in Marriottsville has been awarded an $11.7 million building contract at Fort Detrick for the U.S. Army, replacing an older structure at the Frederick County military base.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded the contract to Harkins Builders to construct a new Satellite Earth Terminal Station building at Fort Detrick in Frederick County, Harkins said in a news release Tuesday. The 34,000-square foot building will be used as an emergency back-up facility for the military’s Defense Satellite Communications missions.
The project is expected to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver standard for new construction. Harkins has worked on other military projects including at Fort George G. Meade in Anne Arundel County and at the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia.
