Maryland Senate confirms Swaim-Staley as transportation secretary
(3/2/2010) Beverley Swaim-Staley was unanimously confirmed Tuesday by the state Senate as Maryland’s transportation secretary.
Swaim-Staley was named to the spot last year after then-Transportation Secretary John Porcari stepped down to take a post at the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Swaim-Staley has 12 years of experience with the state transportation department including as its chief financial officer and deputy secretary. At the helm of MDOT, Swaim-Staley oversees an agency of 9,000 employees and a budget in the billions of dollars.
Gov. Martin O’Malley said in a statement Tuesday, “Swaim-Staley has the deep knowledge of transportation, along with the management and financial expertise that are necessary for us to move forward.”
